Beach & Backyard Paddle Ball Rules
Singles Play (Individuals)
Player 1 competes against Player 2 to see how many volleys they can make before the ball hits the ground.
- When a player lets the ball drop, the volley ends.
- The player who dropped the ball loses the round.
- The player still volleying earns 1 point.
- The first player to reach 11 points wins.
Doubles Play (Teams)
- Each team has two players.
- Teammates stand an agreed-upon distance apart. Both teams must use the same distance.
- Each player has their own paddle; teams use one shared ball.
- Teams volley the ball back and forth. The team that maintains the volley the longest wins the point.
- The first team to reach 11 points wins the game.
Follow the Leader Plus One
Each player is their own "team." The game uses one ball and allows any number of players.
- The first player volleys the ball twice before passing it to the next player.
- The next player must volley the same number of times plus one, then pass the ball on.
- If a player lets the ball touch the ground, the round ends and that player loses one point.
- When a player loses 5 points, they are eliminated.
- The last remaining player wins.
2-Paddle Follow the Leader Plus One
A variation of the game where only two paddles are used. Players pass the paddles along as they take their turns.
- Each player is considered their own team.
- Only two paddles are used, so players must pass a paddle to the next player in line.
- The first player volleys the ball twice and passes it to Player 2, then hands their paddle to Player 3.
- Player 2 must volley the ball the same number of times plus one, then pass the ball to Player 3 and their paddle to Player 4.
- If a player lets the ball hit the ground, that player loses one point.
- If a player passes the ball to someone without a paddle, the player who made the pass loses one point.
- Players are eliminated after losing 5 points.
- The last player left wins.
