Ring Toss Rules

Basic Rules

The goal of Ring Toss is simple: score more points than your opponent by tossing rings onto the stakes. A ring that lands around a stake is called a ringer, and the middle stake is typically worth the highest points.

Before starting, players should agree on a scoring method:

  • Cancellation Scoring: Only the net difference in points for the round is added to the scoring player’s total.
  • Tally Scoring: Each player keeps all points earned each round and adds them to their cumulative score.

H-O-R-S-E

In this variation, the objective is to make ringers that your opponent cannot duplicate.

  • If Player 1 makes a ringer and Player 2 fails to match it, Player 2 receives a letter.
  • Letters accumulate to spell H-O-R-S-E.
  • The first player to receive all five letters loses.

Five Stake Scoring

A fast, competitive scoring style where players race to reach a predetermined final score.

  • Each stake has an assigned point value.
  • Players score points by making ringers on those stakes.
  • The first player to reach the agreed-upon score wins.
